Turned out that the cable was ok, it was the bonnet catches that had seized, so the bonnet just needed a real good yank!! Re greased, so all ok now.

Hi guys, I've just had this issue too, after having to deal with a sticky rear brake caliper, I can't get under the bonnet to top up the brake fluid reservoir. Can someone PM me the answer too?

So ... we have a rule not to share the method with new members as many feel it's a security issue ... but the failure with pliers suggests you are outside the norm for the solution anyway.
All I will say is that the other marque in the JAGUAR Land Rover stable has owners who don't seem as bothered by security. Let Google be your friend. .

Cable goes to a junction box. If there is no tension then I suspect the cable has come out at this point.
