SRS Airbag + HDC Suspension |
|
Hi All,
So I have recently acquired a 2005 D3 with 150k miles on the clock. There were two known issues which related to the airbag light and the suspension. I'll break it into those two separate items for ease - apologies, this will be a long one!
SRS
The red airbag light comes on intermittently, with or without a passenger. The person who had the car before me said he would jiggle the passenger seatbelt tensioner, restart the car and the fault would go away. However since I've had it, that did nothing. I replaced the tensioner (receiver) and this has done nothing. Following some reading on here I have looked under the seat, fiddled with connectors and there doesn't seem to be anything awry. Whilst not major, it was beginning to frustrate me so I took the car to a mechanic who said there was a fault with the wiring in the seat which they fixed... except they didn't. I purchased an ICarsoft because I couldn't warrant an IID tool at that stage (regret it now mind!) which throws up a list of errors, the most applicable related to B0028 'Front Right Control Module'. I have looked at live data and the only thing I can see that might be a simple fix is Deployment Control 7 Resistance was fluctuating, up to 10 Ohm in one instance. Further research and I cannot work out where this sensor is located, and whether this might be what's producing the B0028 error. I want to try and fix the problem myself rather than telling the garage they did F all as I don't really trust them to do anything else without it costing through the roof! Any help on this would be appreciated!
HDC/Suspension Fault
This again was an intermittent error which it still is. The car raises and lowers fine, however when driving for a random period of time there will be a HDC error and the car will drop to access height. Restarting the car will remove the error and return to normal height. When I took the car to the garage for the airbag I asked them to look into this at the same time to save me some hassle, they replaced the FL airbag strut as it 'was leaking', replaced the battery to remove the HDC error and replaced the front air valve because why not... Took the car out yesterday and after about 20 minutes, HDC fault - car lowered. I have reset the SAS although I'm not convinced the ICarsoft is best for that but that's what I used. I'm yet to take it for a proper drive since resetting that sensor but should that not work I'm running out of ideas.
I am really not convinced my garage knows what the problem with as a week of having the car and £800 later it feels like nothing has improved - I don't trust taking it back. If there is a straight forward solution then I am willing to give it a go and swallow the cost of the garage, however if not then I will have to take it to a specialist and fork out more money.
Thanks for your time, I love the truck so hopefully its not too expensive or so much hassle that it puts me off!
TIA!!

Fixed should anyone have the same issue. |

The fixes for the two problems were a bit of trial and error and some googling later, but I haven’t had any issues in some time now.
SRS
This was a fault within the wiring of the seat, swapping out the seat fixed the issue. The pre-tensioner was the same so I assume it was related to the seat connector.
HDC
I ended up buying an IID tool in place of my previous Carly and reset the angle sensor. This fixed the fault. Whether it was an issue with my Carly tool or my incompetence in using it I have no idea but the steering angle sensor was the fault behind the HDC suspension.
Whether this is useful for anyone who knows but I thought it useful to share the fix that worked for me.
