EGR valve - on the waiting list

Hi

Problem with power loss solved (see: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic19441.html)

It was the EGR valves in both sides. I had all the typical symptons as described in other mails (loss of power - high fuel consumption).

The dealership had only ONE EGR valve on hand, and I am now officially on the waiting list for another. The shop managed to repair the second one, and everything is back to normal. They were not able to tell me precise, when the next will arrive here in Denmark.

Yours sincerely

Mine is from Feb 06 and has done 75.000 km (approx. 50.000 miles). Is this perhaps typical for the the lifespan of a EGR valve.

I was told there is a shortage of supply of valves at the moment but mine is backordered and I hope very much to get the second one before May, when we are taking the boat to Croatia. I need power to cross the Alps.

I waited 5 weeks for a pair. Car was just over 12 months old and had covered around 32 or 33,000 miles at the time.

Mind, 5 weeks in a Vogue over Christmas was punishment enough Whistle

OK - no trend there.

Sole common factor is the waiting for the valve.

Ummmm....... Somewhere I saw something about removeing the EGR valve and blanking it off . Dont know what would happen, but to me provided the computor can be kept happy not haveing exaust being fed back into the engine at low revs should not affect performance. maybe one of the experts would be abel to comment.

I had EGR valves replaced about a couple of months back. Since then the power has been fine but I have noticed that the fuel consumption is up. I used to get about 9.5 litres /100 kms, now it is around 10.2 litres / 100 kms. Can that mean that the EGR valves still aren't quite right? On the other hand, I have had the impression in the past that the consumption goes up in winter and had hoped that it would settle down again with the coming of spring! Or is the car getting old? I've just passed 100,000 kms.

There has been an ongoing EGR valve sticking problem with other Ford engines which has recently been cured by a software update. I think this cycles the valve now and then to keep it clear. Don't know if this is relevant to the V6.

On earlier Ford engines, blanking off the EGR was an easy and popular fix, but the later applications get upset. The check light comes on and I'm told that it will eventually go into limp-home mode.

The fact that jmoores has done 10000's of miles with his valves blanked, and had no apparent problems, makes me think that this does not apply to the V6 engine?
