Dunno... maybe the engine likes to have a consistent delivery temperature to work efficiently ?

TD5 engines had the fuel cooled to engine coolant, the fuel pressure circuit between the tank and the engine circulated the fuel until it was used and consequently it could overheat the fuel beyond some optimum level....TDV6 may had the same issue, I guess anything that creates pressure and movement may create undesired heat, hydraulics etc....
 Cheers

Cooler fuel has a higher specific gravity, ergo more weight / unit volume, ergo more calorific value, ergo more bang for your buck.

Same for an intercooler, cooler air is more dense, blah blah blah.
