Steering column LR094612
Hello all.
Recovering from a call from my local garage.
Car went in with a slight knock in the steering. Sounded like a plastic knock near the top of the column at low speed.
Had a call and they said UJ then sent a quote for a new steering column at £4784 +vat just for the part.
Honestly don't even have that kind of money at the moment.
Does anyone know of a good source of remanufactured / reconditioned parts?
Thanks in advance.

I've just searched the forum, yours is the only mention of that part number.
I'd be getting another opinion firstly, and if you really do need a new part, there are plenty of those available second hand on Beay, for less than £250.Richard

I did a search and nothing specific came up.
Is this the sort of part that is ok to buy used on fleabay?
I had spotted those, (mainly from Germany) but wondered if there is a known source that is more reliable / refurbed?

The first thing to know is, is what's actually gone wrong? The lower UJ's are a common failure, but never heard of a top one going. A lower UJ might sound like it's coming up the column.Richard

Is your "local garage" a JLR franchisee, an indie dealing only with Lane Rovers, or simply a local garage?
I would take the car to a well respected LR indie for a second opinion.

Garage is a decent LR specialist who I have used before.
Main issue is they only use OEM parts so can be expensive for major work.

Just spoken to them and they are slightly confuded. Seems to be to UJ but they've never had one go before. Option is 4.5 hours labour to strip and replace top shaft which "may" solve the issue but no guarantee.
Have decided to live with it for a few days and see what advice comes out here.
