Whynns oil leak stopper additive

Hi all

Long time!

Just a quick one

I used that pop can shaped additive from Halfords about 5 months ago to stop a slight oil leak. I poured it in to the engine oil cap as directed.

However I saw a post on Facebook yesterday saying it’s bad stuff and expands the seals causing serious damage to the engine and people must not use it

I thought I’d ask here for some professional opinions rather than on threads as they seem to be less formal and informative people on them. But I’m concerned about my car now paranoid and wanting to know what’s what

Any help appreciated

Tia as always

there are posts on FB that say there is no war in Ukraine. just sayin'.

Wynns wouldn't have made the stuff for decades if it didn't work ... but you have to look at your own individual case and decide "the risks". It works by making your oil go thicker than intended so it plugs small holes. but your engine works because it can push oil through small holes under pressure.

It's the places where pressure is low this stuff is meant to work ...

If your engine hasn't died so far, it was probably ok in your case.

this argument was "aided" by copious amounts of VC, none of which was treated by Wynns.

Cheers!

Yeah I take Facebook with a pinch of salt!

And I’m coincidentally doing oil and filter tomorrow so all good!

Thanks again

I thought it reconditioned the seals or softening them slightly to form a better seal.
