Torque Converter Scotland
Hello, my Torque Converter has gone, given up, will no longer make the car move
Happened in Edinburgh Airport carpark, which caused all sorts of fun. LOL.
Anyway, my local garage have quoted £8,000 to replace the torque converter and send the gear box off for reconditioning.
I'm not paying £8,000.
Do I have any other options, other than getting the scrap yard to come and pick it up and take it away?
197,000 miles. 2.7 TDV6 Auto. 56 plate.
It's had two lots of mega-flush, many miles ago. And Dr. Tranny etc. That's not going to help anymore.

£8k for a box refurb sounds like “we don’t want to do it but if he’s mad enough to bite/more money than sense we’ll do it for that”. Sounds time to find another garage, like DM’s.

Very strange torque converters dont fail like that are you sure its not a failed driveshaft?
If you put it into drive and carefully look to see if any of the driveshafts are turning when you apply a small amount of throttleAndrew

It had the shudder for a very long time, like two years. Then, at certain speeds, you'd see the revometer pulsing up and down. Eventually it started slipping on hills. And then it would work for a short drive, until the engine got warm and then, if you turned it off and started it up again, it would slip. On the day it gave up I dove about 70 miles. Parked up for a while and when I returned it pulled off, but slipping like it never had before. About 300 meters away from my parking spot the car wouldn't move, even when revving the balls off it. It would drive backwards, but not forwards.
I can't look at the drive shaft, as there's no-one to help me press the accelerator.
