D3 Engine not starting after Fuel filter housing change

Hi Forum warriors,

Just when I thought I was in for a period of normal Disco 3 driving after a clutch change, Rear propshaft, EPB service Exh crossover pipe and new CKP sensor.

The car stopped in the middle of nowhere. Censored

I got out and the first thing I noticed was the smell of diesel.

Looking under the car fuel was coming from the Fuel filter assembly.

Recovered back to home base I removed the filter assembly and found the plastic outlet pipe from the filter broken.

After buying a really expensive fuel filter housing and MAN genuine filter I thought my problems were solved.

Now it will not start. I can hear the LP pump on initial start up and fuel is present at the schraeder valve but no engine firing.

My GAP IID tool indicates no faults.

The fuel tank is full of fresh diesel.

IID tool shows LP pump working, no leaks at filter housing.

25Amp fuse is intact.

I filled the fuel filter with diesel before fitting.

looking for the obvious, probably something I have not done. Big Cry

Anyone had this as an issue?

Well normally you turn the ignition in for 30 seconds and then off.
Repeat for 3 times

Hi Pete, I tried that but its not worked this time. No air comes out of the schraeder valve just diesel. Stumped I am.

You need to check the fuel connections to the fuel filter housing make sure they are fully on.

Thx Flack, Its a job for tomorrow . No error codes no leaks. I am starting to thing about looking at if HPFP is turning. But my initial problem was broker filter housing. On the new one I could blow in one end and it would blow out the other end no problem, so no blockage. Do the electrics on the filter housing actually affect starting?

If the HPFP belt was broken you'd have a fault code immediately! (VCV "Actuator stuck" or similar)
Crank it over with a fully charged battery for a long period (15 - 20secs) and see if it fires, or hopefully a code will then pop up. Thumbs Up

Had no luck today. Battery fully charged. Checked cabling and connectors. Still no faults on the IID tool, 0.4bar on fuel pressure LPFP. Getting some cold start Monday see how that goes. Thanks guys for all the advice.

Success, Bought some Diesel start 2 squirts into air filter and started straight away as if there was no problem. Thanks Flack and ProfG Bow down . When it started it reminded me of my AEC Ten tonner starting on a cold winter morning. Happy I am now Mr. Green

Check your fault codes now in case there's something lurking.

It should have started without the need for automotive steroids Laughing

I will do another Fault code read. Forgot to do it due to excessive D3 euphoria. Mr. Green
