Hi guys

So finally getting to change toe links (panhard rods)
Tomorrow and got tracking booked for Monday
My q is the manual says jack up use axle stands and chanfe whilst wheels removed
Is this correct? Wouldn't it make the rod drop or extend thus fitting new one
Awkward
Would ramps not be better and leaving wheels on there is just enough space
to do it.
Abd finally there us a tightening nut on the shaft what's it for
I cant find any info on adjusting it.

Wheels off or at least raised will make fitting easier. The important bit is the height setting at the chassis mount side. Basically the gap between the rubber gaiter and the bottom of the chassis mounting should be 12mm ( you can use a drill bit)

Once that baseline setting is done the rear toe alignment can be carried out accurately. The nut on the shaft is the toe adjustment lock nut. Thumbs Up

So the adjustment locknut,, do I need to be doing that then i mount the link? Then tighten that up against it? I am surprisedit holds in place.
.and a silly q I am sure what's the drill bit

You want to "match" the tie rod to the one you are removing as closely as possible. Once the rod is in place the gap beneath the rubber boot on the ball joint (inner side) and the bottom of the chassis frame needs to be set at 12mm. A 12 mm drill bit will assist you in this!

The centre lock nut may need to be open in order for you to adjust it to "match" the tie rod you are removing. Check the bolt head at the wheel side for centre punch marks, a punch mark must be struck every time this bolt is opened. If the total number of punch marks (including this occasion) = or exceeds 4, you must replace the bolt for a new one! Once installed tighten the bolt to 175Nm if it's suitable to reuse. Then tighten the inner ball joint to 133Nm maintaining the 12mm gap beneath the rubber boot and the chassis frame.

Tighten the lock adjustment nut to 130Nm and have the 4 wheel alignment checked. Failure to observe the bolt reuse protocol can result in it snapping during service life.Thumbs Up

Great help appreciated all done now and retracked it even feels smoother to run
relatively easy task in the end just had to going one end of on one link
