It's all too exhausting... |
|
I have some questions regarding the removal of the front muffler in case any other forumites have done it.
Some time back Disco_Mikey had a couple of images of one that may have passed through his workshop. I tried to PM both Mike (and Martin to see if the problem was at my end) but for some reason the Outbox is not clearing and neither has responded).
So, the questions are;
1. Is it much noisier (for instance, does it drone at any speed)?
2. Would the back pressure be lowered and possibly have any effect on the engine? (Currently at 280 000 km; the body, not the 3rd engine)
3. If in the future I blank the EGRs would this have any effect on the engine (with or without the forward muffler)?
Thanks in advance LeighW

I’m assuming you have a petrol? Check out YouTube there’s lots of videos from the US giving you idea of the noise level, it appears to be a popular mod over there so try a US based LR forum. Steve

Thanks for your reply Devon Z.
I have a diesel 2.7 engine and was of the opinion that others in the UK had tried a pipe kit that replaced the front muffler. However I did not find out any comments on the change in noise (and/or resonance) that the change made. I do seem to recall a video from a South African forum contributor but can't find it now.
I don't think the petrol-engined mods will be relevant but thanks for the suggestions.
Cheers, Leigh LeighW

Ther are some others but they state they’ve taken the cat out as well and they are a bit noisy. Steve

It is a 4 stroke….
Not a 2 stroke….
So no “Back pressure” effects, since 4 strokes don’t use that…
On a 4 stroke, only the diameter and length of the exhaust pipe (in total) have influence on the performance.
As long as you do not lengthen or shorten the total length… you be fine regarding that subject.. Best regards
Harold

Thanks for all the replies. They are appreciated.
One of the videos seems to not have the rear mufflers visible and I assume the owner removed them as well. Unfortunately, I haven't found out any information about 'droning' at any speeds, so I may have to put it in the too hard basket.
Thanks again for the replies, videos and the link.
Thanks, also Motolab for the info about back pressure. LeighW
