| Slight clunk in brand new Timken hub bearing |

Evening
I'm just about to fit a new timken front hub. Giving a test spin on the bench, there is a tiny clunk every 60 degees of turn (6 clunks per rotation). You can't hear it, it feels like the equivalent of a wrist click (it's not my wrist). Other than that, it feels tight and smooth, unlike the one it's replacing.
Very much regretting not testing this at Rimmers before I walked out the store.
Anyone think this is normal?

I thought some of the more experienced chaps on here would have replied by now but seems wrong to me.
Perhaps it's because there is no load on it but 6 clicks per turn would surely equate to an annoying vibration out on the road? .

Hi there, I bought a timken wheel bearing a couple of weeks ago, I’ve not had time to fit it yet but I was surprised at how hard it is to turn and how notchy it is,

Yes Lee, that's exactly how it feels..
The stiffness I'm ok with, I put this down to newly packed grease, cold and stiff. But the notchyness of it doesnt seem right. Seems like the bearing is "low resolution".
I can't see how any notching or backlash in the bearing won't result in quick wear.
I've fitted it as I don't really have a choice but will be monitoring it closely. I will report back with noise an feel.
I am also going to go to Rimmers again next week and have a play with a few samples of a few different brands and see how they compare.

Most bearings are notchy when there is no load applied to them
The CV joint is held tight by the nut on the end of the stage, applying a preload to the bearing. Without this preload, the bearing doesn't run 100% true*
It will be tighter to rotate anyway, and the clearances are much less, and with fresh grease

Preload etc all makes sense. The play is on n x-axis resolved by the hub nut I assume or something or other.

Genuine LR products have 2 years warranty regardless of who fits them, keep your receipt safe  It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
