Silicone Intercooler Hoses
I have asked this on D4 too but I guess there isn't much difference in my general question. I'm looking at the Allisport set of three silicone Intercooler hoses. Does anyone have good or bad experience of them? Easy/Ballache to fit? Any problems as a result (read from urhunden on D4 that it separated the throttle house?)

The original hoses are robust and very rarely give a problem other than that described by lynalldiscovery.
Silicon replacements are a waste of time and money imho. Spend the money on a pre winter service and a susp compressor refurb! yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Thanks both. I've just gone for a genuine LR replacement. Do I need any kind of sealant or just slap it on and tighten up?

No sealant, just fit them and secure the clips firmly, the lower end in particular can seep a bit of oil out,if not fully tight.D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. So I replaced the top intercooler pipe with another LR genuine one. The new one was a bit firmer than the old one but not by as much as I thought it would be. Although the new one does have a sock around it, I guess to prevent it expanding so much? Anyway the result is a definite improvement in pulling away from junctions etc, definitely a lot less lag now.
I did have a question though. The old one had some oil inside. Is that normal or indicative of a different issue? From what I have read, a little oil is to be expected. There was only a thin layer around the inside of mine which pooled and dripped a little once I took it out.

A small amount of oil is acceptable and would account for the "wet" state inside the hose. what you don't want to see is a gush of oil come out when the bottom intercooler hose is removed.
A dribble is OK.
Though saying that my own D3 is dry as a cork in there. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Sounds like another good reason to not get the silicone set as I might have been tempted to change that bottom hose. Best left unknown! (famous last words)

When you're under it doing a service pop it off and drain off any excess. There's two turbos so it's reasonable to expect a little oil will get past the seals as the car ages.
Do you know if the turbo drain modification was done? Do a search of same on here if you're unfamiliar. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Ooo! I did not know about this mod as it happens. Not even after 7 years with a D3! I'll take a look and find out. Looks worth doing if not.
Edit: Ah, of course, it is an early D4 problem only! Duh!
