Another Cranked D3
My 2008 119k miles decided on my last day of staycation holiday to stop playing fair.
flatbed back to my indie to find out the crankshaft is broken. no visible damage to the oil pump, timing is still in correct settings. when we got the timing cover off there was strange shaving of what looks like white plastic lying around.
Its extremely well looked after and most repairs are carried out well in advance of things breaking
im gutted.
the week before it happened i noticed a change in the tone/noise from the car whilst driving, it resembled what i thought was a faulty flexy section of an exhaust downpipe like a little extra raspy noise.
leads me on to the question of the new engine route directly from landrover - LR006701 has anyone recently went this route and was landrover dealer the best price for it. I know its expensive but i love my disco and happy to sort it properly. my trust in breakers is at negative 100 after all the calls i have made in the past 2 weeks

Sorry to hear this has happened to you. I would suggest you're first move might be to have a chat with Disco Mikey as he's not too far from you in Dundee. His reputation is widely respected!
As for the fault itself it's interesting to hear some testimony regarding the engine behaviour prior to failure. Usually the report is "it just died with no inkling of anything wrong"
I can only offer a guess as to what might have caused the failure, and based on what you have said I'd be thinking a spun bearing shell or possibly an over fuelling event. In any case a new engine is definitely the way to go if you have the budget.

Aye will drop Mikey a pm see if I can get some more advice on what to replace.
My mechanics a mate so I can get the job done for a really good price. plan to get the chassis cleaned up and raptor it or along those lines
Also plan doing all the suspension arms and some other bits whilst access is good.
Was definitely an audible difference in the running of the car from the cabin in the week before it happened but the sort of noise your convinced is there but the Mrs thinks your daft.

No idea on the vat thing. That would be pretty bad if they base the quality workmanship on whether there vat registered. Still waiting to here back from landrover.

its nothing to do with the quality of workmanship - it would be 20% more expensive for the warranty company if the garage isn't VAT registered05 D3 V8 HSE, LR Passion tree bars, wildbear compressor guard, LRP switch panel, ARB rear locker + compressor, Trigger 6 shooter electrical system

oh dear, its amazing how common this fault actually is.
according to bearmach/lrparts etc they have an eta of 3rd of september for the landrover engine through them.
whats the best number to speak to landrover directly to place an order? thats been a whole day i contacted them twice "we dont have that part on our system" and they need to call me back.
