transmission fault - limited gears available |
|
Had this message a couple of times yesterday
Car started but wouldnt let me select drive no errors in IID though
turned off the car, removed key, restarted and message didnt come back and car drives normally
is this one of those "it could be anything, from alternator to brake light to rear floor mats" type of troubleshooting?

Yes its one of those type of errors.
Start with checking the battery voltage anything below 12.4v after the car has been switched off for 20 mins you will need a new battery.
Then check the alternator voltage that should be in the high 14v range or even 15v after starting the engine.
If both are good check all brake light bulbs (be warned the filiment can break off and drop down onto the side light filiment and will still work just not as bright this shorting out can cause your fault)
Then change the brake switch with a genuine one (same switch is used in other Ford vehicles and is a lot cheaper than the LR one) the switch has more than one circuit so although the brake lights work it can still be faulty. Andrew
