Towbar key identification

Morning all,
I can see this was a once contentious and secretive issue and source of a few words on other posts..
I need to get a new towbar key as I want to remove my towbar on my 05D3. I don't have the key.
Can someone advise please where exactly is the lock number on the unit so I can use it as reference for a replacement. I have looked over the green plastic lever and can't see anything. The silver barrel is coroded to a degree that means that is not really showing any markings. The plate on opposite side to barrel also appears blank.
Obvs I have all the ownership documents if needed.
Cheers
Rich

Its usually stamped on the lock barrel face plate
You'd be as well replacing the lock as if its not been off for a while it will be beyond WD40 help

Cheers Sea Raider, I'll try and get the solvoautosolve out and see if it cleans up enough to show anything. I don't think it's been off for a good few years. Its also bolted onto the chassis via a plate behind the towball which will add to the problems.. It does not look like all the standard ones I've seen so suspect it was maybe a mainstealer fix.
I'll take a look in min cheers

From what you say, not much chance of a new key releasing the lock - if you can find the number. I would just order a new lock and fit. You might still be in for a small challenge to get the towbar in or out.

I really don't want to angle grind it to be honest. The crossmember looks a bit iffy under the electrics cover which is a pleasant surprise lol. I'll take a look after work and see if I can see a number and go from there.
If I have to get brutal, what's best way to go.
Plate off from behind lock and hammer it out
