D3 drilled and grooved brake discs

My D3 has drilled and grooved discs all round, but on the front near side where the holes are it has not worn evenly and has scored the pads.
The pictures describe it better.
2 questions,

1. What could have caused this? I’ve had the pads out and there is nothing jammed causing them to rub / wear like this.

2. To replace it, are the drilled and grooved worth the slight extra in cost?

It may be because the previous owner had allowed the pad to wear down to the back plate causing the scoring. Either that or more likely they're just cheapo discs.

The disc doesn't look to be very old or worn apart from the scoring. If it's braking OK (no side pulling or steering wobble) you might as well get the most out of them before you decide replace. Std disc will be just as effective unless you're going for the expensive options, and even then you'll only notice if you have a regular need heavy braking.(Trailer!)

The previous owner probably thought these would improve braking which they won't. What he should have done is fitted the V8 upgrade which will improve braking. (New larger discs and carriers, same calipers and pads.)

It's not an expensive or difficult upgrade, but you can do the fronts and leave the rears til later on if funds are an issue, but NOT the other way around. Thumbs Up
