EPB unlatched after towing caravan!
I have just rebuilt/repaired/overhauled the complete EPB system 3 months ago, new shoes adjusted as per Bodsey's brake bible and quered the jammed up module and relatched it, all working as it should until now!!
I have just picked up a new caravan and I noticed that the EPB has unlatched itself or more to the point the IID tool tells me the emergency hand brake has been pulled? I have'nt pulled it! and as I said this only happened later the same day after towing the caravan.
Not getting dredded screeching as if jammed up but when pulled all I get is the wurring noise as if setting the brake on but goes on for ages then stops, and no park brake.
Ideas anyone? if it has something to do with pulling the caravan or just coincidence!
Plus it wont relatch so I'm going to have to strip it down again

Sounds like coincidence. I can't imagine how towing would affect the EPB.Richard

Me either but it is a Land rover so who knows why it happened,

I would say coincidence. Have you had a look at the cables, may have snapped one? Sounds very similar to how mine behaved after I accidentally let it try to apply when one of the rear hubs was off.

IID says the emergency release cable has been pulled but it has'nt
All fixed again and re adjusted, no idea what caused the EPB to unlatch,all cables move freely,
and got hand brake again woopeee.

wheels off, calipers off, discs off after de adjusting the shoes, remove spare wheel, remove the EPB module support plate from behind while sitting in the space where the spare sits.
remove the 4 13mm bolts and 2 10mm nuts on plate, twist the module round remove the 8 T20 torx screws after disconecting the loom from side of module, prize off the lid(full off sealant) being careful not to break the lid.
if the brass bar inside has not locked solid to the left hand cable its a simple job with a power probe to just reverse power the motor to unwind the adjuster (brass rod) until it re latches to the right hand cable with a click, then put it all back together with new sealant replace the torx screws twist module back and refit the mounting plate put the 10mm nuts back on making sure the rubber feet are located in the base plate, reconnect the loom plug, and bolt the plate back in place with the 4 13mm bolts.
put discs back on and adjust the shoes, calipers back on check all works ok wheels back on JOB done, thats it in a nut shell. Check out Bodseys brake bible for the adjustments.

it was this time but the first time I did it took forever as the brass rod was jammed solid, but thanks to a post on the site re screeching from EPB, got it done in less than half the time as it was'nt jammed this time. only took 3 hours on this occasion.
I dont know why dealers and some garages do not change the rear belt's, on the D4 its more of a job than the D3 but still doable and not as bad as some other cars..
