Engine system fault and Special programs turned off.

I've had this problem for the last week and I've read so many different posts about it and being a Disco it seems there is a million and one solutions. Hopefully by explaining my exact scenario it might help.

Anyway I bought my 2006 Disco 3 4 months ago it's got 140k miles and seems to be a really nice one. Anyway to date I've noticed the suspension works sometimes but sometimes it put a fault and won't and just stays in normal height, it had a new compressor but the old one was fine. It also loses brakes on a gradual brake downgi or such, pedal just goes hard. I'm thinking servo.

However the main problem for me now is the engine system fault and special programs turning off. The jeep has a EGR delete and was remapped by the last guy who had it down at a landy specialist. The jeep outs out a far amount of black smoke when you really sink it, I had out this down to the remap and it never seemed to bother it and the jeep goes like stink. However last week it started this power cut whenever i sink the keep to pass someone or such. But if I let the car freewheel for a few seconds it regains its power again.

Note now that I think about it this happened the first time when I was close to.home and only had 15 miles left in the tank(normally it never gets below 100 but I was on my way back from collecting a tractor and I only fill diesel at my local guy because I can trust his fuel) I'm wondering if it could have picked up some dirt?

Any help greatly appreciated even on the suspension if possible, I'm thinking a sensor maybe?

Many thanks

Welcome to the forum,

Oh Oh you've used the J word. Shocked

Someone will be along shortly with some help but until then do you know anyone who could read the fault codes for you?

What warning lights are on the dash?

Hiya

Plus 1, naughty step for mentioning the J*** word Laughing

Welcome to the asylum Whistle

So when u boot it the black smoke sounds like a split intercooler hose, also might be the turbo actuator arm sticking causing the special programs error

When it goes into limp mode can u clear it by turning the engine off and then back on again

Plus 1, to getting the codes read

Lastly if I may plse add as it’s a new purchase , have u also ensured the timing belts have been done inc checking the oil pump

Hope that helps Thumbs Up

Ps, know u mentioned what disco u have but u might find it easier if u fill in ur vehicles details

Thanks for the replies guys, as for warning lights, there is none other than the suspension one from time to time. When it does the engine fault it comes on and does away straight away again however the special programmes won't work again until it's turned in and off.

Also the power problem I don't even have to turn the Disco on and off to fix it, it sorts itself after 5 seconds of sitting idle for example at a road end.

I apologise for the J word 😆

that’s ok we forgive u, next time u have to buy the beers Rolling with laughter

U can also buy ur own basic code reader for under £60.00 if u haven’t got a garage near u , the gap iid is the best one to get as it will do virtually everything ur need, but they are around £500 , second hand ones come up here from time to time around £300 , but sell very quickly

Would also ensure ur battery is in good condition as a weak battery can cause all sorts of issues

Can do some basic battery checks with a multimeter

Power problem can indeed be several things , these are complicated beasts so starting with the codes and ensuring battery is sound is always a good starting point

Hope that helps and ur find the forum full of extremely knowledgeable members Thumbs Up

Just got home there and poped the bonnet, thought I had better check my intercooler pipe again and sure enough there is a crack in in. Doesn't look like the handiest of jobs to get at but I'm well used to tight engines.

Before I buy the hose is there a recommended one to buy? Or are they all much the same

Hiya

Great u found the issue, it normally splits on the top elbow at the back

Personally I replaced mine with silicone ones along with T bolt clamps to replace the jubilee clip type , of course u can fit standard hoses, silicone hoses just last a lot longer

Here’s a link as I wrote down all the sizes, indeed is a simple job, as a side note , both intercooler connections Are oval shaped so better off with a jubilee clip as so hard to get the T bolt clamps on

The long hose is a lot easier than the other ones, the ones at the turbo can be very awkward , alas can just fit the long one for now to stop the black smoke

Oh, plus check ur Map sensor fitted in the top of the throttle body to ensure it’s clean, don’t poke anything down into the sensor or ur damage it, best to use an electrical cleaner ,

Here’s a few links to help Thumbs Up

T bolts

They also have stainless steel jubilee clips

Hoses

Long hose on its own , alas I bought the set as I replaced all of mine , also please don’t forget to refit the long sleeve back on the new hose

Hope that helps

Also forgot to say , when u fit a new fuel filter which is done every 2 x years plse make sure it’s a good one , ie mahle or oem as they don’t like cheap ones

https://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/land-rov...09-1-c.asp

Battery , instead of the 0017 u can fit a 019 ,

U can recharge ur battery via a 12s towing ( grey ) socket , easy to retrofit

Plse let us know how u get on with the codes and battery

Thanks for all the useful information. I've got all the parts ordered up.

Onto the next item on the list of issues to solve. The common oil in the servo problem. Was on the phone to my LR dealer today to see about the recall but apparently mine isn't entitled to it even tho its clear to see its clearly not been done. I don't think i can be bothered with the back and forth so if it isn't stupid money ill do the job myself. My question is what all is needed. A new Servo of course, and i seen a listing for the new vacuum pipe and none return valve. Is there more needed or should that cover it?

Many Thank Jonny

My pleasure and great it helped

That’s a shame ref the recall, I had mine done under a recall a few years ago , new servo, pipe and new master cyl, so assume they’ve stopped it

If it’s ok I can’t see a problem reusing ur master cyl

Indeed the recall notice will have the part numbers

One thing that concerns me is if u get air into the ABS unit , u normally need diagnostics to open it to get the air back out

Someone else may know if it’s possible without diagnostics

Plus brake fluid should be Dot 4 class 6

I actually bought 2 x litres the other day from here

https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/ate-sl6-dot...b+Networks

Plse let us know how it goes
