Hi. Looking for some advice on the removal of the cylinder heads on my disco 3. Is there any major problems doing this. I know I will need the timing do at the end of it can you use a stroblight on can this be done with a diagnostics machine. any help or reference is appriciated. Thank you.

The L/H head is more awkward than the R/H, but then so is the rest of it unless you have done it before.

The timing is static and since there is no ignition there is no need for a strobe unlike early petrol engines.
Can I ask your reason for removing the heads?

Hi. The reason for the removal is that the gasket on the cylinder head has gone when you start the engine the coolant is really bubbling up and under pressure. I am getting coolant and oil from above the gearbox. Looking at the exploded diagrams it seams to be that is what is wrong. on a previous post I put on the site I had a problem when the engine overheated and lost all my coolant. I have put a new cylinder head coolant flange on and it still does the same.

To be honest it's really a body off job if that's a possibility for you. Personally it's the only way I'd do it as it really is very awkward to say the least. Thumbs Up

Just be sure the gasket/s are blown before you start Shocked
