Rain-sensing wipers - disable? |
|
Hi. D3 HSE with rain-sensing wipers which are not working. Local LR indie has checked it out, and says that he can see the rain sensor signal getting to the BCU, but no wiper 'pulse' instruction going from there to the wipers - so suspected BCU fault.
A search of this forum suggests that editing the CCF to disable the rain-sensing function might get normal intermittent wiper function back - which would be nice! Is that something which is likely to resolve my issue? And if so, is there some kind soul in the Chester or north-east Wales area who has a IID tool and would be happy to do the necessaries in exchange for tea and biscuits or a few beers?!

I turned mine off with the IID as I found the autos very annoying. IID tools are locked to a single VIN number. If you don't have an IID tool yourself to edit the CCF, you will need to be find someone with the pro version that is not locked to a particular VIN or, pay someone £60 to add your VIN to their tool. Interesting, where does this hide on the CCF?

To clarify - my problem isn't that I'm finding the rain-sensing wiper function annoying. Indeed, I'd be happy to have it at all - but it simply doesn't do anything at all. I'm just wondering whether turning the 'auto' function off in the software will restore normal intermittent function.
I didn't realise the IID tool was locked to a specific VIN. I don't have one myself (if I did, why would I be asking this question here?!), so I guess I either need to find someone with the 'pro' version or simply suck it up and keep flicking the wipers manually when I'm driving in the drizzle!

Good luck and yes disabling auto reverts the stalk position to intermittent. Kev

The auto wipe can be enabled or disabled in the CCF providing they are there in the first place, the sensitivity can also be adjusted.
It must be noted the windscreen in front of the sensor must be kept clean and free from road grime, I use Barman’s Friend regularly and have never had any problems, I would not switch mine off and I’ve got an Iid. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Agree with all of the above - I wouldn't switch mine off either, in the normal course of events. But as I've explained more than once - the system has failed. The BCU, for some reason, isn't translating the 'rain' signal into a 'wipe' command. Hence the desire to disable auto-rain-sensing wipers in the vehicle config to see if I can at least regain regular intermittent wipe functionality.

Will the auto lights still work when the rain sensor is disabled via CCF? My rain sensor is very erratic, so I have pulled the fuse, but unfortunately that kills the auto lights as well.
