Another noise issue
Evening all,
Disco 3 - 54 reg
For those that have seen other posts, bought this little beauty about a month ago. Got a great price and budgeted for niggles which I knew it would have being such an old one.
Long story short, car is amazing apart from a continuing issue with what can only be described as a real head scratcher.
Only occurs on bad roads (really bad) or if I take it in the field which ATM is particularly dry - most of the time on normal roads its fine.
Front
Ive had a drop link replaced (one was suspect)
Ive had the ARB done today
The lower arms are less than a year old
Everything else checks out as normal.
I've tried a few places in between conference calls, where
One garage stated could be 'Hydra bushes'
One stated could be steering rack
One stated could be ARB bushes - I got this one done today as it was the quickest and cheapest option
One stated could be lower steering shaft
Its kind of frustrating that the list gets ever longer but the solution remains elusive.
Additionally, having been to 3 places, they all contradict the others - I feel like i'm in a nightmare of builders and plumbers but this time with mechanics as the main characters!!
I'm in Winchester, Hampshire - can anyone recommend a go to place or somebody mobile to solve this one?
I'm happy to pay for the main culprit from the above list if it corrects it - but don't necessarily want to just replace things for the sake of it. As stated above, everything else checks out as normal.
Any assistance appreciated.
I'm even happy for anyone to come experience the issue as I have a nice rough farm track where the clonk occurs constantly.
Should of added - it feels like the clonk / knock is 100% at the front - I can feel through the steering wheel but ONLY on rough roads etc.

Jack the front up and rock the wheels at the 12 and 6 position then at the 9 and 3 position. This should check most joints including the tie rod ends

As its a ladder chassis the noise could be transmitted along it so you also need to check further back too.
It might not be a suspension problem check your sump guards for security and loose debris sitting inside them, check your engine and gearbox mounts too.
