Hi
Is the STL software for the 3D printing can the software run off a standard iPad plse
How hard is it to do such a design plse
Apologises for all the questions
Many thks
Hi, yes an STL file is a standard file type used for 3D printing - in simple terms it’s a set of coordinates to describe the outer surface of an object as a series of triangles each one just 3 or less coordinates Ultimately they all form a watertight mesh that is the outer shape being printed.
I use some design software on an iPad called Shapr3D- needs an Apple Pencil but is amazingly simple to use.Must stop buying shiny toys....

Many thks and makes sense
May i ask plse , if u wished to design some thing how hard is it to draw it so u do a rough sketch and the software sorts is out
Plus how do he get measurement so accurately on the software
Many thks for the great info and just like to see how things work

What a great idea and use of a printer! I wouldn't mind one if there is a spare - I was going to change a couple of height sensors! Thanks.

It works!
The tape hook could do with being slightly longer, but it works.Richard

Hi Gary
if you have an iPad with an Apple Pencil the Shapr3d software is really easy to use, (must have the4 Apple Pencil though or it can't work) you can import a picture of your design and draw over the top of it, all measurement etc can be typed directly into the software, the latest iPad Pro also includes a camera with the ability to measure depth, the new version of Shapr3D software looks at those measurements and captures them for creating 3d objects from physical objects, effectively making the iPad into a scanner (this is seen in one of the Apple videos)
I normally really struggle with conventional CAD software but have found this to be really useful. It also imports and exports files for use in desktop CAD as well as generating print files for 3D printers and CNC equipment.
Heres a pump body I generated in around 20 mins on my iPad

And here's some printed
(the green ones are a special material and process for metal casting using investment casting - they are hollow inside with like a honeycomb between thin outer walls so it can burn out in the furnace and leave a cavity to put metal into)
As you can see the same file can be printed at many different sizes depending on what you need. Must stop buying shiny toys....

Many thks and very grateful for the explanation

Looked at that Shapr3d software for something like a manual so could understand it better of now I start a design
Apologises for the daft questions
Many thks and will check the rest out

Wow
Well impressed , just trying to get my head round the start process of how u can make such a fantastic design
Thks again for sharing some piccies

I found it really easy using their YouTube tutorials on my desktop/laptop and then replicating on my iPad at the same time

Looks good - I found that the rounded tip of a hotel room keycard was the ideal tool for removing the centre caps without marking the wheel BTW - or one of those Screwfix cards that they seem to keep offering whenever you visit Must stop buying shiny toys....
