Instrument Cluster
Can anyone fell me where the fuse for the instrument cluster is located?
Cheers

Thank you for your reply PROFSR G, I will have a look this morning.
I have been having a on/off problem with the IC for some time and have decided to try and find the cause.
So far I have Removed the IC a few times fiddled with the connector, re-soldered the connectors and terminals inside the IC all to no avail.
Because the symptom is power cutting in and out resulting in losing all the IC, sometimes momentarily and sometimes for a number of minutes I suspect a disruption in the 12V supply so am trying to trace it back to the source of supply.
Cheers

Common problem with D3 (see various other threads on this forum!). Cause is crappy solder used during production, resulting in poor connections which fail over time.

Thanks gareth71 and philm for your replies.
I have now ascertained that 12v is supplied to the IC so I will get the IC repaired, but will look around in Oz first as sending it to the UK will put me out of action for too long.
Cheers

He is a good guy did mine he might be able to help with advice how to resolve your problem. I had mine repaired then after fitting instrument lights kept failing he helped diagnose the problem on mine by message so worth asking him. Welsh Collie Chauffeur Service To Barney & Rooney.

I would have an educated guess that it is a similar issue to the Defender Puma instrument packs (same basic design). The solder joining the main connector socket to the circuit board develops cracks and makes the connections intermittent.
On a Defender this manifests mainly itself on the immobiliser circuit, stopping it starting
You should be able to get it repaired locally, once the instrument pack is dismantled a quick touch over the 32 solder points for the socket with fresh solder should sort it.
Don't be tempted to "fix" any other solder joints on the circuit board (e.g. for chips), do the socket only.06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Sorry, didn't spot that you were in Australia.
The symptoms you describe definitely sound like the solder joint issue, though. Speaking to Patryk when he fixed mine, it seems that the 2006 ban on lead in consumer products, and the necessary switch to lead-free solder, led to a decline in the quality of the solder joints in some products - Disco3 instrument clusters included! Patryk's solution is to remove the lead-free solder from the 'problem' joints and re-flow them with good old-fashioned leaded solder - this solves the problem. Perhaps you might be able to find an electronics technician near to you who'd be confident to do the job for you?

Thanks Martin, Gareth and Hot Tub for your inputs.
I have disassembled the cluster and resoldered the 32 pins but the problem has persisted though not as bad. I will try and ring Patryk and see if he can throw some light on the problem rather than sending the unit away, though I will explore the availability of local (OZ) repairers.
Thanks again

Just came to me that I should verify the earth of the IC, does anyone know the earth point?
Our last trip through central Australia included around 2000ks of sometimes bad corrugations.
