Oil Leak 05 Disco 3 manual.
Hello...new to this..patience please???
I found a transmission oil leak (prob not unusual!?) running down the offside of the middle of the bell housing, not lots of it, but the breather pipes at the top of the housing are wet, so is my drive!? It appears to be coming from the top side of the housing, but i haven't explored any further..without dropping the box etc.. I dont seem to be able to accessthe housing from the top. Friend has said he doesn't think its the XY box..but cant be sure. Bit in the dark at the moment. Any thoughts welcome please. Many thanks...Andy

Is it definately transmission oil?
The oil filter housing can be guilty for leaking engine oil into the "V" and down the bellhousing...My D3 Build Thread

Had a breather pipe split on a manual D3 before and leak down the side of the gearbox and off the transmission undertray

Is it a common fault on the maual Dis 3 for the breather to split? Is there only one breather? Cheers

It was a gearbox breather. Get underneath it with a torch and you should be able to see where the leak is coming from

funnily enough with a torch i can see up the offside of the g0box and see what i think are two breather pipes the inner most one is wet ?? brill, presumably the whole assembly will need dropping to get at them or it..

It's fiddly but you can do it without dropping the transmission

Any updates on this guys?
I’ve noticed a leak from the top of my gearbox also. So I’m guessing I’ll need to get new breather pipes fitted. Are they easy enough to get to from underneath with all the covers taken off?
I’ve double checked it and it’s definitely from the gearbox. Same oil I put in etc.Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.
