Special Programs Off warning at start up |
|
Only had my 2005 D3 for a couple of months and not driven it properly now for five weeks for obvious reasons.
I took it round the block for a short drive the other day, and on engine start-up the warning: "Special Programs Off" appears on the dash display briefly, then vanishes, is this normal, because I don't remember seeing it a few weeks ago?
Is it just telling me that SP are off in case I should want them on to drive off?
If I rotate the dial, all the different terrain program signs come up on the dash (and stay there) until I turn it anti-clockwise and the Special Programs Off comes up briefly again, so all seems to be ok in that department, it's just that I can't remember seeing this warning before on engine start-up.

These things really don't like batteries at anything below full power. Standing for 5 weeks I suspect your voltage would be down to 11-12V. Enough to start the vehicle (in these weather conditions) but low enough to briefly ping up the Special Programs Off message. As soon as the alternator kicks in then all is good again. Many members on here recommend the use of c-tek chargers to keep the battery in tip-top condition if the car is not being used regularly.

Cheers, yes, I've read about battery problems, but the battery is less than a year old.
Still, I'll bung a trickle charger on it and see if that sorts it out, thanks.

If you have tow bar electrics do a site search for charging through tow bar electrics. 2006 D3 HSE Buckingham Blue

It’s a sign of a low battery
Hardly surprising after weeks
