2.7 TDV6 - not doing rear timing belt when front done

I'm curious, is there much advantage in terms of time and effort in common component removal to replace the rear timing belt at the same time as the front on, or could they just as easily be done separately? e.g. if the front timing belt was done, vehicle reassembled and driven for a few weeks until a convenient time to get back in and do the rear one.

Watched Flack do it ...... takes perhaps 20 minutes? Maybe 30?

Oh, and for the avoidance of any doubt, yes .... the man is a God

I’m curious if anyone pushes the service interval out on their rear timing belt beyond the 7 years/168,000km, perhaps to 10 years? The front one is critical as failure would result in catastrophic engine damage so wouldn’t be worth the risk, but from what I understand failure at the rear would be more of an inconvenience due to the car no longer driving - so tow truck to a garage and replacement belt required if it failed.

The rear belt is not critical, but if it snaps it can make a mess of the rear of the engine and the main wiring loom, Disco Mikey has seen this when the rear belt has snapped.

Flack Thumbs Up
