It’s looking good, bad dreams about flooded house were just that. It was some rain.
3 hours on the train today to Da Nang. Hopefully.
Gareth, now that would make your golf interesting!

No doubt you’ll make the 19th anyway, it’s just a question of whether to sample the other 18.
Great view of the Dragon Bridge from the hotel in Da Nang.

Hopefully weather will improve.

Updated so moved here.
Pics time, will add txt later. Getting into Da Nang.
Another VNR loco. With the rain the coast of Vietnam had yesterday absolutely amazed it was on time, it had started from Hanoi.

Rubbish pic but this was the first egret we saw perched on the back of a buffalo. Not one of my finest pics.

General views of the jungle on the inland side of the train.
Very Apocalypse Now.
The town/fishing village that the TG lot looked down on and proclaimed their new found admiration for the country.
And the South China Sea, which if you believe the Chinese virtually all belongs to them. Well it has to with a name like that.
Looking up to the Hai Van Pass. All the jungle is covered in creepers, like totally covered. The old Hai Van Pass Road is up there, somewhere, but we didn’t see any traffic on it. Bikers like to use it, might be a bit slippy on two wheels today though.
Small boat in the river in front of the hotel laying a big line of nets/fish traps.
And when in Vietnam you’ve got to eat local food pizza. This place is packed out & we just got in at 4:40pm, a few minutes later and we’d have been turned away. They make & cook it in front of you, bit like Dominos just a lot nicer.

Should do as we’re doing the whole railway.
Another rainy day ahead plus I’ve got a bad case of man flu. Strange how SWMBO can battle through her cold and it doesn’t stop her at all.
Nice healthy 2nd plate for breakie, see if fruit can chase the lurgie away, following rice and stewed pork for body. Besides, you lot might not be getting your 5 a day.

And it’s back to piddling down. It looked ok not 3 minutes before.

PS And let me introduce you to Cafe Sua, coffee with condensed milk. Truely the nuclear option of coffees. When I first tried it in Da Nang 6 months ago it was a complete revelation.
And that’s enough of the healthy stuff, my body needs fuel to fight this man flu. These are lovely.

And it’s stoped raining.

Just slobbing it in the room, watching Iron Man and whatever else was on HBO or Fox Movies.

A few more pics, this time from a little wander around the block. 28c and pretty humid, plus with ‘orrible looking weather all around, didn’t go far.
The business end of the Dragon Bridge. Pretty cool up close. On Sat & Sun at 9pm it breathes fire, well burns diesel, and meant to look pretty spectacular. We’ll watch it tonight from the room and see what we think re watching it with the crowds tomorrow.

Fish statue fountain thing, bit like the Lion Fish in Singapore Marina Bay area. It was doing it’s fountain thing first thing this morning but not when we got there. Maybe it was shifting flood water.

Lots of fishing boats beached on the river. We’ve seen lots of fishing boats out with light in Phu Quoc earlier in the year but these don’t look like they are moving for a while.

Prob a brand peeps back home have never heard of, Vinfast. Basically a range of cars made in VN.
They do a Mondeo sized car and a compact, plus a range of leckie scooters. Now the latter sound a great plan but believe me, they are the real sneaky ninjas of the road and silent = deadly, esp when driven up the wrong side of the road. As the Madagascar penguin sez, “head on a swivel boys, head on a swivel”.
Popped into a big(ish) supermarket to get some coffee sachets/AC/general mooch around. Love the Mr Viet coffee branding but their 3 in 1s are double the price of the G7 stuff, with no chance of a free helicopter or looking like 007. Still holding out for the next Bond role.

And our fave Vietnamese vino comes in boxes. Steering clear of boxes of vino, it means you have a problem and just admit it.
Soooooooo cute travelling pillows, just begged for a pic.
And then back to the hotel as weather was looking pretty wet all around.
Strangely it came to nothing this side of the river, even though we could see tower blocks on the beach strip disappear & reappear.

It is a wonderful place, but didn’t see any more of it today as battling the lurgie/MF. Also been battling the Vietnamese version of the GFWoC. Usually couldn’t get on here but the right way in (via Viettel sim) and right VPN & setting and I get through. We’ve obviously been upsetting someone here. Mind you, not all was lost as DM & Telegraph both work without any VPN.
A few pics from the fire breathing bit of the Dragon Bridge last night. We knew it was deffo happening as the trip/dinner cruise boats were jockeying for best position.
And doing the fire breathing thing. Rubbish pics, sorry.

I’ve no idea if these pics are in the right order as this VPN combo doesn’t allow the pics through. Hopefully loose this nonsense once in Cambodia. Well once I get data sorted.

You can’t run that fast!!
All day in a train to Nha Trang, coughing & spluttering over everyone. Plus blowing the schnozz is a major gaff in VN. Never mind, pockets full of tissues ready for said gaffs.
