Auto changes up, back down, then up again! |
|
I've just started getting this strange problem with my Disco3. Accelerating away from a roundabout for example, it will change up as normal then when it gets to 4th, it almost immediately changes back down to 3rd for 2-4 seconds (depending on how hard I'm accelerating) and then back to 4th again. Its done 143k miles and no change in gearbox yet so, I'm wondering if this is the beginning of the end and if so, whether its worth getting the box repaired or sell the car.
Any ideas what the problem might be and whether its a gearbox repair needed ?

Pulls just the same. I havent' checked oil level. Just had gearbox specialist plug in diagnostics and it came up with an error relating to e-clutch on 4th gear and something about mismatch of ratios? I didnt get the actual error code. They said the clutch is on its way out and its a gearbox recon job At 2.2k+VAT and the trade in value of the car 2.5k I now have to consider whether its worth doing. What do you think? Am I just throwing good money away?

I would get the oil flushed out and replaced if its never been done before you start looking at rebuilds, it could just be the oil breaking down and crud in the system.

I agree. If it's on 143k and the fluid has never been changed, get it flushed.
The manufacturer, ZF, recommend a fluid change every 62,000 miles or 8 years, whichever comes first, however, the damage may already be done. It may be worth a shot though. Kev

2005. 143k. Not sure how to answer the condition question but it has been serviced fully. Don't think its ever had an oil flush but will check.
thanks for the thoughts.

Other ppl on here may recon the gearbox.
If you got 20k more out the engine would that be enough. ?
