My first Disco so not sure whether it should - does the fuel filler flap lock when locking the car. At the moment mine can be opened with the doors locked. If it should lock, is there a procedure to check where the fault might be??

Yes the flap should lock.
A pin should come out.
Either electrical motor problem
Or plastic pin broken off or cable broke

may differ on D3 but on my D4 the cable bit between solenoid and actual moving pin had simply popped off ... pushed back on and all fine since. .
