Partial drop of the fuel tank to remove the cross member.. a |
|
OK, put a post up the other day as I am about to replace my turbo. Found the cross member nuts on driver side are obscured by the fuel tank cradle to locate an 18mm spanner. Managed to remove the LH side bolts with heat and breaker bar.
So need advice to partially drop the tank to remove these nuts, it is nearly full so I want to be very careful! Any advice on how to do this safely would be greatly appreciated to locate heat and a breaker bar to the nuts. You do mean the cross member that support the gearbox? I've taken the cross member out without removing the tank cradle... should be no reason to remove cralde! Si

If necessary undo the front bolts 2 turns
And middle bolts 1 turn.
Or if you have another diesel car, transfer over half a tank

Yes, I think this would be the first option, however, needed heat and the breaker bar on the two on the other side, might get my dremel on the job, and cut out just enough to get a breaker bar on.
