2008 G4 D3 Engine failure help.
I purchased a G4 which had been very well looked after with 100k. It drove perfectly until one evening it suddenly sounded like a broken washing machine with metallic grinding. The car was recovered to Mark Smith in Bicester but they have advised it needs a new engine with suspected bearing failure.
They recommended NWS Motor services who have quoted around £6K fitted including new turbo. They now have a 30 day turnaround.
I spoke to them regarding rebuild failure rate and parts used and they answered all my questions so I booked it in but they can't collect for another week.
I have now read this forum and seen the various comments about NWS and the issues of reconditioning the TDV6 and am very concerned I am not doing the right thing but also that I can't seem to find any alternative other than maybe a main dealer.
If there are any NWS customers who have been running their engines for a while and could share their experiences or other advice on how to proceed, I would be grateful.

Can't comment on NWS from personal experience but you have obviously done your research.
When mine went bang I had a JLR supplied unit fitted for me by Disco-Mikey. IIRC the actual engine was around £4,200 (plus fitting), and it came with a 2 year warrantyCurrently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE
Previously:
TD5 Defender 110 CSW (230k miles)
300TDi Disco 1 (289k)
4 RR Classics (300-350k each, 2 manual, 2 auto)
110 V8 CSW (220k)
S3 109 hi cap pickup (ex RN)
S2A 88 Safari SW with lpg conversion (bloody lethal)
You need to talk to Joe @ Oval Autos, Cradley Heath, a site sponsor. They might be able to help, but I believe they are no longer reconditioning 2.7 litre engines, probably because of the difficulty in getting good parts, and lack of cost effectiveness.

Do not use NWS.
Search on here and other places for the feedback.
As mentioned - Speak to Joe Hodgson at Oval Autos or Tim McKnight at Alltrack4x4 (Malvern). You are probably too far for Mike Park (DiscoMikey on the forum).
The above only fit genuine LR approved engines with 2 year manufacturer warranty.

Being a G4, it probably deserves a genuine LR lump to bring it back to life

No, couldn't spoil a G4 by making it a V8
Id be looking to restore it, and fit a genuine 2.7 lump back into it My D3 Build Thread
