Just a little over 24 hours until we hand over the keys to "Dave" and pick up our new car. So you can imagine my delight when I walk out of the hotel this morning and get zero response to pressing the unlock button on the remote.
Took the emergency lock cover off (hint to all those who don't know about this: Practice, and keep the lock greased) and managed to open the car. Alarm went off, which was a positive, but what I wasn't expecting was for the car to have done a hard-reset in the night. Everything: Seats, clock, cd player, all acted as if the battery had been disconnected all night. Started fine, drove fine, but still.....
I've had a couple of odd gremlins the last week - once I hit a pothole (not unusual) and it was christmas day on the dashboard for about 2 seconds, then everything went back to normal. Another time I hit a large puddle and had the same.
All points to a dodgy earth, corrosion on one of the wheelarch connectors or corrosion on the BCU plug (windscreen replaced 3 months ago).
I have visions of getting the AA to dump it outside the dealership after dark tonight..... That. or standing at the side of the M3 waiting for the fire brigade.
Still, it's been a fun 10 years of ownership I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

XC60 T5 250
Don't need 7 seats any more, don't tow the same weights we did previously and have the freelander for mucky stuff so decided a nice car with 4x4 ability was more important than ultimate offroad performance. Going petrol seems to make sense too....
And I have found the loose earth! Risk of failure on M3 tonight on my way back to Dorset mitigated....ish. it's still a Land Rover, so not entirely devoid of risk however....I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I'm still holding out for the new Defender (need for that sort of off-road capability being trumped by sheer "want"), but this being Land Rover I'm keen to let the mandatory involuntary Beta Testing (first 18-24 months of production) pass by before I think about spending any more money on JLR products!I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
