Suspension fault only when freezing |
|
Hello,
I do get a suspension fault when the D3 is started after being outside at arround freezing temperature. (only twice this winter )
When above 5degC I do not get the fault.
I noticed that the front suspension is raising very slowly compared to the rear suspension. What could cause the slow (difficult) raising in the front?
My dealer updated the suspension and the transmission FCU's to solve the problem?!? So far it has not been freesing these days so I can't confirm if this is the resolution to this problem. Anyway when I switch the suspension to off-road hight the front suspension is still raising very slowly.
Regards,

are you leaving at access height? if not, the D3 shouldn't drop enough to need to raise in the morning, possible air leak letting moisture into a valve block which is then freezing causing the error meaasge

I do not leave at access hight, allways use the normal driving hight. If moisture is the cause, is it normal that ther rears does not have the problem? TDV6 (Belgian) HSE '06

I noticed the same problem last week. I was away skiing for a week and the D3 was parked outside the rented accomodation. Temp was consistently -5 or lower. After a couple of days when i moved the suspension up it would appear to raise at normal speed but then note on the dash that suspension was raising slowly. There didnt seem to be much further change in height bu the raising slowly message remained for about 2-3 mins.
I put it down to ice affecting the sensors. Sure enough after a long drive with the car throughly warmed through everything started working again as expected. Since then no problems. The car did have a lot of snow and ice on it from the journey to the ski hill. I have not had this problem when the car has been used in cold temps here in Calgary.

We have a few days with -1° to -4°C and again I get syspension faults.
Last winter the dealer software adjusted the tollerance of the compressor pressure to "solve" the problem.
So this is clearly not the problem as the suspension fault commes on again.
Any suggestions to get rid of these suspensions faults (only when freezing)?

D3 has compressed air reservoir, a few ups and downs and the reservoir is exhausted. Also lower temperature will reduce pressure in the reservoir. The pump that maintains the pressure is not very powerful so reservoir pressure only builds up slowly. Once exhausted, takes quite some minutes to recover pressure. Probably not a sensor problem, but have 'em checked by all means. There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

What would happen if there is a build up of water in the air resevoir? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I get a variety of odd messages when it's extremely cold.
The messages only flash up for a second or so, then dissapear.
There's never a problem, so I just put it down to the cold interfering with the computer message system. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

The error stays until the D3 is in regime temperature (long trip) and the engine is restarted. TDV6 (Belgian) HSE '06

Perhaps it is worth a seperate thread, but I also get random strange messages like HDC failure or suspension warnings starting this week, and also the satnav appears to reboot as I start the engine - I have put it down to the cold making the electrical load heavier (higher resistance, lights coming on etc) meaning the power dips below the required thershold on a few systems. Always clears in a few seconds.
I am going to get the dealer to check the battery when it goes for a service in January, but any other probelsm I shoudl be asking them to look for? Craig

Sounds like to old cold weather power chestnut to me. The software upgrades in 2006 were supposed to fix this, but they clearly haven't.

Hmmmm they were supposed to have been done, but I am not certain - anyone know what I am looking for on the Satnav Screen? Craig

As long as it goes away, I wouldn't worry. I still get the occasional christmas lights effect, but nothing more once the engine is running. I've learnt to ignore it.
