I will probably feel like that later but I do enjoy the trucks half the time but it’s the other half when it’s trucks I cannot stand like Mercs & Man I’d rather reline a hino than change a bulb on a merc
I find that a fair amount of lorry drivers & fitters are into LR but I’m not sure if it’s a size thing or if we’re just glutens for punishment
I’m going to swap the gearbox with the engine and like you say I plan on stripping both to check out the damage when time allows and hopefully I will have enough good bits for another little project later on :
I’m grateful for the interest

Body Removed
Another update,
I had a spare couple of hours today while swmbo went to visit newborn twins so I thought I’d try and get a bit further with the disco and I was shocked how easy it all come apart, within 2 hours I was locking the workshop and the body is off, I probably spent and hour to and hour and a half doing bits n bobs over the last few days so worst ways 3.5 hours in total for my first one but credit where it’s due as I’m sure it would have took twice as long had it not been for the “how to” by Disco Mikey thanks

Great up date and glad it's going so well, I can hardly wait for the next instalment. You have "tied" the ramp up now so I suppose you'll have to crack on with it.

Another update
It’s been a busy week so not much time for the disco but I have managed to get the engine lifted out and have the chassis cleaned up as it was caked in mud grease and road filth,
I also started to remove some of the stuff from the old engine and thought I’d have a look at the front timing belts and oil pump whilst I was at it and the belts and tensioners are literally brand new but the oil pump is the weak type with an 07 date stamp but still intact
There is some stains that look like coolant as well and a fair bit of oil at the back of the engine running down the bell housing and the valley is wet with oil so it maybe coming from there, on the plus side the turbo feels perfect so could be a handy spare for a future project depending on the outcome of the cause of failure for this engine,
Also once clean I had a quick look round the chassis and found the n/s/r handbrake cable has been cut off
Also the o/s/r upper wishbone rear bush is shot the other side is new though, plenty to do then

I make you right , do you think in the design process they missed the fact of how close that bolt would come to the body mount so someone went I know let’s just cut a slot out of the bracket that’ll be all right Current

The plan is when time allows strip it to see what the damage is and salvage what’s left for the next project, I’m hoping it’s spun a crank bearing leaving me with a good pair of heads, injectors, turbo etc Current

I bought a car from a customer that had a good well looked after engine gearbox & diffs but the body and interior was rough as it was his workhorse but when he come to upgrade I paid him what he was getting offered in px as I know the engine and the plan is to get at least 2 different projects out of it although I’m now using the gearbox in this project thanks to my recovery driver Current

Sounds like you are making great progress. Presumably you are going to steam clean the under body off as well. Good opportunity to get some wax oil or similar into all those nooks and crannies. Has it got a leather interior? or whatever seats you have fitted, are they shot as you say the last owner used it as a workhorse. Continued good luck with it, Dave.

Soz Dave I have only just noticed your response, I would love to steam the body but sadly it would be to much to get it off the 2 poster and round to our steamer and then back on the lift correctly again, I am tempted to treat the underbody and chassis though but worry about the negative thoughts from a buyer later of what am I trying to hide, whilst the chassis is separated though I have replaced some wishbone bushes the handbrake module the rear pads and shoes, also the cambelt kits arrived plus all the other gaskets and injector washers to put it all back together when I get some more time, it does have leather and is in pretty good shape but does smell a bit doggy so I will deal with that when it goes back together Current

I look forward to your bulletins ref progress on resurrecting this old girl. As for doggy smells? not the end of the world and easily cured as you no doubt know. Yes I understand moving the body round to your steam cleaning facilities as being a logistic problem but a good sousing in waxoil or similar would not put me off buying if I was in the market for a D3. When you have completed this one how do you fancy another similar job from a club member with a dead engine? See "Hayden" who has a similar problem with a seized engine but can get his hands on a good running 2.7 engine. Please keep us all in the loop ref progress with this job......Dave.
