Alternator (Another one) bracket |
|
Hi,
Recently my alternator failed. And I replaced from the bottom as I couldn't get the fan off. TBH it was easy enough.
BUT.. All 3 of my alternator bolts snapped at the threads.. Much swearing!
So, I'm at the point where the new alternator is out, but I want to remove the alternator bracket to remove the bolt stubs. It'll be far easier on the bench.
I've found 3 10mm bolts, but the bracket is still not moving. Even asking it nicely. I assume there are more bolts, but I cannot find them.
The ones I found were under the tensioner, and 2 at the top of the bracket.
Can any one assist with how to get the bracket off? Google and the haynes manual have faiuled me so far.

should be x2 at the top and x2 in middle of the bracket to remove it.

Cheers. I found another two. Got it out. Turns out the alternater bracket had already been messed with the thread in the top alternator bolt had damaged thread. That explains why it fell out at speed, went thru the read drivers tyre and out the surprisingly expensive mud flap.
Meh, we have ways of making it work.
Once it's all back in all I have to do now is workout if the new alternator is bad. There is a lot of drain on the battery when the engine is not running (Not a fault with the original alternator). That will drian the battery (New) if given enough time.
Unplugging the alternator signal wire reduces the drain to acceptable levels though..

Ohh?
I presume the wires from the Alt? Looking a tthe wiring diagram,
2 wires go to the ECU : Mon and Com (Common?)
1 Goes to F20 in the fuse box (Sense).
I'd have thought I'd have blowing fuse, or error lights still. Once I get it running again I'll check it all again.

To close this, I think the new alt is the issue. Unplugging it from the loom drops the draw to nears. Zero. Meh.. Life eh.
