Diesel - Chip Fat?

Hi

Wondering whether anyone has tried to run their diesel Disco with cooking oil (used or new). If so, how as it? Were there any after effects?

Not really thinking of trying it, just curious.

Happy if someone corrects me but I think it's too viscous for modern common rail high pressure diesels with their ultra fine injectors

You are right Dean. You might have managed it with an old 200 TDi Disco, but not a modern one. Thumbs Up

I used to run my RR-classic soft dash on it, It ran ok but was difficult to start on a cold morning, everybody who followed me used to think "i,m starving and I can smell that there is a chippy round here somewhere" Laughing

As said above bad news for any common rail engine and tbh I dont think its much good for any engine unless refined correctly, just because they run on it doesnt mean they like it.

Ive tried 200tdi and 300tdi on it and with both once I got close to 50/50 new veg oil and diesel mix the car was down on power, strangely the fbh seemed to be just fine on it!

Then I bought a 200tdi engine that had been ran on veg, wasnt long before the injector pump threw in the towel, so any potential savings wiped out in one swoop.

I used to work with a guy who ran an old Peugeot on the stuff.
It was a killer if I had to follow him to a job especially if he put his foot down and a ton of smoke came out of the back as well Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

A couple of mates use new chip oil in their 300tdi’s but one uses old filtered chip oil and it STINKS when following him

My 300tdi ran better on 1/3rd veg ... 50/50 was ok in summer but slow starting when cold.

Apparently this alternative use is why Costco have a limit on how much veg oil you can buy.
