D3 towing electrics, bit of advice please.
Hi all,
I’ve fitted the towing electrics for a trailer and although it’s not been programmed, I still thought they might work all they seem to do is when brake pedal is pressed one of the indicators comes on. Any ideas? Or is it a trip to the dealers. As far as I know when I fitted the loom it just plugged in.
Thanks in advance Lee.

Programming it just stops the car fog light coming on when there’s a trailer fitted and also sets the suspension for a trailer. It should work, have you got the correct kit for your vehicle?

How sure are you the trailer is wired correctly? Check thats ok then check with a known working trailer board or similar

M3bobby, that’s what I thought, it’s a genuine LR kit, but could be for a d4, I don’t know, but it plugged straight in and all the clips fitted.
Biffysun, it’s a brand new Thule easy base, the plug seems to match ok.
Thanks both.

What other symptoms do you get?
If the car has been configured to USA spec this will cause both indicators to come on when braking. And the indicators to work normally.

Thanks.
I’ll give it all a check over the weekend, and try to find out what’s going on.
The car is uk spec. It’s never had the electrics fitted or Towbar till now.

Have checked trailer lights, they work fine on another vehicle, anybody else had this issue?
Pete, I’m getting nothing apart from one indicator when brakes pressed.

I would get a test lamp.
turn on the side lights.
And have a prod in the D3 connector.
the center pin should be + with the lights on.
If not, there should be some connectors visible when the rear left light is removed.
Inspect
and or look inside the car on the rear left.
check other pins on trailer socket.
Left indicator is at the top of the socket 1
right indicator at the bottom 4

Thanks, I’ll have proper go tomorrow when I have someone older that three to press the brake pedal and turn the lights on. Photo here shows plugs the plug with two pins in, it appears to show permanent live at both, I’m assuming they are for the caravan set up. And there is a plug behind the light that the white towing set plugs into. The plugs all seem to match, it’s whether they are playing all the right notes in the right order.
