DPF regen, questions?
I don't want this to divert from the diesel diluting oil thread but, as DPF is new(ish) to me, questions.
What speed do I have to drive at to guarantee "forced" DPF regeneration? I've seen 2,500 revs mentioned, that would be about 90mph in 6th, 80 odd in 5th or 70 in 4thin a six speeder.
No way am I risking my license at 90 so even at 70, how long do I need to hold 4th? 20 minutes?
Isn't the DPF meant to automatically regenerate? Would a 20 mile blast up to 70 - 75mph at the end of a 550 mile haul mean it's regenerated at the end of said blast?
I've had the car for 12k miles, I'm assuming it has regenerated several times, how often would it do it on a long haul at my normal long haul cruising speed, 60mph? I can't remember noticing it regerating, it must be subtle if it does.

Will give that a little rooster booster next time out. There are some pretty steep hills around here where I can get a bit of speed up.

Never seen it happen on either of my D4s but on SWMBOs Antara it's a pain.
You start to get warnings at 3rd fail IIRC and fix was take it for a run, manually select 3rd gear and rag it,er, just under national speed limit for 15 to 20 minutes. However, since part of under engine cover was removed due to technical issues ( exploding when hot ) the airflow at that kind of speed prevents it getting hot enough to do the regen. So ... Mad as it seems, slow down a bit and it works. Think enjoyable country lane instead of motorway 😀.

If you look at this topic, I have written my experience with speed and rpm for DPF regen on road.
The easy way is to select low gear and boot it down the motorway for a about 10 miles or so, no need to break the speed limit. done a few this way before the IID tool got the re-gen option.

It was a pain on my Isuzu, definitely more clattery when it was regening - which it insisted on doing every 100 or so miles.
