I do think people get a bit excited about the perceived problems with the TDV6 engine. Yes, it's a bummer if yours goes bang, but the fact of the matter is that the TDV6 is no worse or better than other makes, i.e. average. All engine manufacturers have problems, and if you are worried about Discos then don't entertain any ideas about buying an Audi, BMW, Vauxhall, Renault, Volkswagen, and many others, all of whom have higher engine failure rates than Landrover, some of which are frightenly high.

@Moo. That's the whole point of my question : I too have a pre-2007 TdV6.... ...question is : when to disaster start to strike... As Farmer Col said : yes indeed many makes have problems. But if the problem zone is defined, its easier to steer cleer of the problem...

Looks like my 2009 3.0 SDV6 crank has failed having only done 47k miles.
Looking to [probably] buy a new LR engine from a mate who's a main dealer but need someone in the SE (Surrey/Sussex ideally) to fit it. Any recommendations?
What's the value of my old engine as its perfectly recondition-able having only done 47k miles - crank is only noisy, it hasn't completely failed (yet!)
