I must admit it was a bit of a silly comment after reading it back lol.
Mental note: dont play with your tool on a open forum lol

Thanks Pete .
I have just removed the grey 6 pin plug of the one nearest the aux battery tray .Started the car ..no difference.
Started and stopped the car 6 times ..still all normal .No Mil lamp on
Drove round the block (about a mile ) no diffrence to normal driving ..still no fault lights ..very strange
I understood that only MY07 and later show the check engine light for a faulty EGR valve. Those with DPFs might object more strongly, although the EGR valve is kept closed when overfuelling to cleanout the DPF.

You are correct with the 7A> but the rest should flag a fault with open circuit as a perminant fault.

I accept that there's no getting away from a fault being logged, but on the 7A onwards will the check engine light go off when the valves are reconnected, and is any sort of limp mode/reduced performance enforced whilst disconnected on these later models? I don't want to have to wait for the next service to have normal power re-instated nor to have the light still on at that service. I dislike with a vengence what EGR does to an engine and have always disabled it as soon as I've discovered how to do so.

Im unsure on the MY07 cars, ive not ever tested this.
If i had ne available id test for you no problems.
Im working on making EGR emulators for the later cars so that they can be disconnected and replaced with a emulator to stop the faults.
But as above its time and the lack of components thats holding me back.

... Is there any consensus on whether to disconnect the valves once they have been blanked on pre-MY07 models?
I ask because when I mentioned blanking to JSF 4x4 in Manningtree I was advised to disconnect the grey plugs afterwards as they seen one or two blanked vehicles that had issues because they hadn't been unplugged.

No plug removal is needed on the pre 07 cars, their are many many without problems with plugs still connected including my wife's for the last 4 or 5 years without issue.
