Crimping Tools

Ive just got through yet another set of crimping tools for the automotive type crimps for electrical connectors.
Does anyone have recommendations for crimping tools (not the monster sizes, just red/blue/yellow type) that will last more than a couple of months of almost daily use?

Ideally with wire stripper built in, but not essential.

So a decent set of wire strippers as well if seperate. Thumbs Up

Any suggestions welcome Thumbs Up

I used an RS Pro crimp tool almost daily for 10 years, in harsh environments.

I still have them, but have a desk job now Laughing

I bought a set from screwfix for at home but invariably end up bringing the RS ones home from work if I need any crimping doing! Thumbs Up

I detest the red/blue/yellow crimps so I do not have a tool for them. But as above I would buy the best you can afford, and from a reputable supplier not just off eBay.

I also hate the type with a passion but needs must on occasion and use a Sealey ratchet crimper (AK3857), which works well, has quick-change jaws and has stood-up to 6 years of regular use.

For proper uninsulated automotive crimps I use the Japanese 'Engineer' brand. Good prices and excellent quality. I also use the same brand for my fine stranded wire strippers.

I can grab a photo of them if needed.

I use these, just for wire stripping. https://www.amazon.co.uk/C-K-495001-Automa...B002NZMM9M

Not used every day, but usually a few times a week, for the past several years. Still work great.

As for crimping tool, I use a ratchet type one similar to the one posted by gstuart, not sure what brand.
Again regular use for many years with no problems.

Thumbs Up

For larger stuff I also have the CK linked above - there are many that look similar but are far from the same. For end-on stripping I use the composite Knipex.

Not keen on the connectors but i had a Sealey ratchet type that broke a few years back. Never got round to replacing it i have made do with a 8 ton tool for the few times i needed to do it. Nut with a sledge hammer approach Laughing

Curious, how do you join cables then?

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

For me ferrules, heatshrink butt crimps or uninsulated terminal crimps.

Remove insulation, twist together, bit of solder and then tape or better still heat shrink over the top. It's a lot of faff though so would depend on what I am doing and if I can be arsed bringing the soldering iron home from work. (I don't solder at work, but soldering irons are available from others)

adding some pics of the crimp tools

LH insulated
RH non insulated

the one on the right has a terminal holder , has all different sizes according to which one u wish to crimp

like the cheap storage boxes , find it a godsend in having them in one place Thumbs Up
