I too use soldered joints as well, but it depends on location and what's required. Pretty much all my crimps are the heat shrink type as it makes the job so much easier.

Yep, back in the day I managed with just a couple of strippers and crimpers. Now manufacturers seem to be in a race to build the smallest wiring and connections possible. I'm finding stuff harder and harder to work on. Working out the latest way to take a connector apart has me scratching my head. I think I have to update my extractor tools at some point to keep pace.
