What do you use to clean your side steps?
Hi,
I'm having trouble getting the edging of my side steps to look good it's almost stained.
What do you use on your side steps?
Thanks,
Jamie

I struggle with that too, must have tried 4/5 different things and no joy.

I found it made a difference wether the side steps were third party or genuine. The genuine ones were less likely to stain so much. I used Autosol and they came up okay, not perfect that said,

What's the best way to tell if they are genuine or not? Mine were on the car when I brought it.
I will give autosol a go though.

Ive found OEM ones stain less but I spray them with alloy wheel cleaner and use a Magic eraser sponge every now and then
Ive also found my current ones pretty much wipe clean but I'm putting that down to the ceramic glass coat I had put on the car.MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten
MY12 HSE - Gone
MY16 HSE Luxury - Sold
MY20 D5 HSE - Sold

How to tell genuine side steps from the others. Not an easy one, particularly if they are carbon copies like Britpart that had the same part number on the bottom. I couldn't tell them apart other than the Brtipart ones tarnished pretty quick and it wouldn't remove whereas the genuine ones did and also the silver trims detached after a couple of years.
If that happens, despite what others say, I found self tapping screws reaffixed the trims fine and lasted me 9 months until I traded the car in.

Used autosol on the sidestep trim today, it's better but far from how I would like it as areas are still stained which I would like to get rid off
Anymore suggestions gratefully received

Very easy.
Wait for the rivets holding the chrome strip to rust through then the strip falls off. Then get Prestige Jaguar in Paisley to refit as part of service etc. Good as new, despite me trying lots of things myself.
Only snag is that only one of the strips needed to be re-attached.
