Oil - Full Vs Semi Synthetic
I'm planning on changing my oil every 5k miles and have just about about reached that point since its last change. I have enough TripleQX 5w30 semi-synthetic from Eurocarparts that I was going to put in my old Volvo V70. Is this good enough or should I go Magnatec. Filters etc will come from Advanced Factors.

Just checked what I have in the garage. It's all TripleQX fully synthetic, 5w40 (for the old Volvo) and 5w30 (913 A/B) destined for SWMBO's Focus. Sorry.
Magnatec price watch has been set in mysupermarket.com

5w30 to Ford 'A1' spec would be preferable

Don't forget that the same engine in a Citroën C5 uses a B3/ B4 5w40 spec semi or full synthetic. I've got got 5w40 B3/4 full synth in my D3 and it's fine. Actually the engine runs quieter than when using 5w30 A1 oil.Freelander SE 2005 Auto.

Magnatec 5w30 A1 Ford, it comes as part of the service kit if ordered from AF, although I tend to buy in extra from Costco. Halfords sometimes have the 4L on offer for £18GAP IID Pro Multi Vehicle Defender L316 2007-2015 - Discovery 3 - Discovery 4 - Discovery Sport L550 - Freelander 2 - Range Rover Evoque L538 - Range Rover L322 - Range Rover L405 - Range Rover Sport L320 - Range Rover Sport L494 Electrical Fault Diagnostics

In the 18 months I've had my d3 it has always rattled for 5-10 seconds at cold start up. Sounds like a knocking from tappets but I have no idea really. Changed the oil for the 4th time (every six months, maybe 4k miles) a few weeks back and the it has just dawned on me that the noise has stopped
Happy with this but am confused as to why. Also noted that I used a semi-synthetic oil (by mistake) for the first time. Could this be linked to the noise reduction.

Thanks Craiggillin1985 but why have they been silenced by using a semi synthetic oil? Or is it just co-incidence, and a sign of impending doom!

Mines always rattled on start up. I've been trying to work out what it could be. Sounds like it comes from the drivers side of the engine?Richard
