Part of me wishes you hadn't said that, but I'm willing to overlook it while I abandon my search for Land Cruisers and instead (resume my previously ceased on the grounds of prioritising reliability) search for Range Rovers. I suspect there's the potential for some marital discord in this, but pretty sure I can recover that based on the merits of a Range Rover's rather nice heated leather steering wheel over a Land Cruiser's cold plasticy job alone.

Marital discord comes with LR ownership, so you have to keep telling them "but you look good in it" Laughing

My crank has not snapped yet....at 92k ..... Landrover serviced since new.....followed by an intermediate oil and filter change every year...approx every 5000miles. I periodically tow a heavy caravan 1800kg....I am extremly concerned that the carrot will snap. From what I hear it is due to the bearings spinning ... causing siezure ..... when I talked to Opie oils about this....I was told the Lion engine is super sensative to oil ...the correct spec needs to be followed religiously....they maintain if a different grade or spec is used the oil film wedge in the bearing shell changes - effecting lubrication. Long oil change intervals are also a big issue ..... as there is a risk of reduced oil flow through the small oil filter. I am hoping my maintenance will help.....at 92k the engine is running superbly at the moment...on a run driving carefully its not unusual for me to get 45mpg!!! Anyway time will tell....fingers crossed...

I'm in exactly the same situation (sans caravan). I regularly get 500 miles per tank if I don't hack it over 70. Fingers crossed, proper servicing and not kaneing-it up the M1 at 85 (like I used to in the old XF) will see me through. Thumbs Up

That is exactly what happened when my 2008 TDV6 HSE died-a Con Rod through the bl0ck in exactly the same spot Big Cry The oil pump was the new design and the oil was religiously changed at around 6000 miles with Mannol 5-30 spec.
Strange that the identical engine fitted to the Jaguar doesn't appear to suffer the same fate at the rate of the Disco Question
Thanks Gary for posting the Video Thumbs Up very interesting.

Oh mate Sorry to hear that , Big Cry indeed thought many would also find this interesting

does seem strange why the jag engine doesn’t suffer with crank issues, Mines just clocked 100k and intend to swap it over to 5/40 and change the oil and filter every year

Will stay with the millers oil

England 2015 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 HSE Lux Auto Fuji WhiteDiscovery 4

2015 HSE Lux 118k at death (Nov '23) 104 of those being mine. LR Approved service ctr maintained by the book with interim oil (6k miles) changes since purchase in Jun 16.

Squealed like a little piggy at 04:00 on start up in -5 temp, FBH had been running for 15min prior, thought she was a bit miffed at being woken early & in the cold prior to attending the RAC in Kielder as a Radio Car.
Got 12 miles from home, gentle, almost imperceptible lurch (felt like fuel starvation) at 60/65 on a dual carriageway, all lights on & immediate loss of power.

Gutted but over 6/7 years she was 'major' trouble free, had been to all 4 geographical extremities of the UK, taken me/us to some fantastic places in style & comfort, been up to her midriff in water (a lot), has been the weekend playing/family bus/wobble box puller, won prizes, featured in LR Mags, covered the miles & given lots of smiles.

Nobody hurt, could have been a lot worse. RIP Frosty

Thanks for the reply Gary.
Car was running like a Swiss watch beforehand and we were on our way from France to the Midlands up the M40 late on a Sunday night after getting off the ferry when the engine died, no noises just cut out.
I managed to locate an engine from a 2008 Disco which had just over 80K on the clock and had been written off due to a roll over. Oil pump, cambelt and Torque convertor replaced by the garage before it was fitted and all rear brake pipes replaced whilst the body was off.
Touch wood-ti has been fine since and is still getting 5-6K oil and filter changes.
Bow down Thumbs Up
