Your poorly illuminated steering wheel will be the loom behind the airbag, very common fault.
Search the forum, you'll find it. Thumbs Up Mods:

Start with loom as it's the cheaper option Discovery 3 se gone

Finally got around to popping the airbag out and pushing the connectors back on and it's all good so far Thumbs Up
