New AUX Input Installation

Hi all.

Wondering if I could get some advise please. I found it frustrating to keep putting me aux lead into the middle console aux input behind the fridge so I installed my own aux input and fitted the input point next the left 12v cigarette lighter on the centre console.

I soldered the connections onto the new aux input and connected them up behind the head unit. First I stripped connections 7 8 (red and blue) and connection 12 (black). I connected the red and white wires to red, blue (7 & 8) and ground to black number 12. It worked but the sound was extremely low so after research on this forum I found an ok thread where someone advised to connect one wire to 7 and then join the other wire and ground together and connect that to the second wire 8. This has improved the volume and quality of the sound a lot more. It it still isn't near what it should be and the sound coming from the aux input behind the fridge is so much louder. This at full blast on the radio and my iPhone is still low.

Any ideas what I can do to improve this or if I have done something wrong?

Many thanks.

Try shoving a jack plug in the rear console aux input. Wink

I'm sure that helped significantly but might be wrong. Rolling Eyes

Yep, thought so, confirmed here: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic17945.html Thumbs Up

Narpy. You are the man Thumbs Up

I put a jack plug into the back console unit and surely enough the sound is 100 perfect now.

Thanks so much for your advise. I know it's something little but having the aux socket where I have it now makes life a lot easier (for me anyway who doesn't like to go to the back and find the aux socket each time I want to use the iPhone).

Here's a little photo of my mod.

If anyone out there wants to do this mod (I have a hse so not sure if it's the same on other models) feel free to get in touch and I will give you a step by step and hopefully save you having to go through tons of pages to find the right info.
