I've noticed on a cold day, they do not operate as well as they should do and perhaps stop short of opening to full capacity with a little 'creak' sound at the end.
Anybody else seeing this? Or do I have a 'duff' pair?Iggy/Ieuan

Both sides are of equal length when new.
The picture above is probably old strut (top), new strut (bottom).
My struts are not so good, i dont have a ladder ..yet..no imediate plans, but the old girl is a long term toy so ii'm expecting to add roofrack and ladder at some point...
question: is there any harmfitting higher load spec arms if i dont have a ladder?

As can be seen in his post, after purchasing RogB's ladder, I found my struts were no longer up to the mark. Curiously, my fronts failed at the same time - someone here suggested the cold weather. Anyway, powerful do a set of four for a reasonable price so I will be doing mine shortly...
As for buying more powerful ones then is needed, I did this to my old A6 with two effects. Firstly, if you didn't get out of the way quick enough then you risked getting whacked in the face and secondly, you had a generous workout to close the thing up. SWMSBO complained too...LR3 MY05 TDV6 2.7 HSE - 130k
