Can you get the key in the lock and turn it, or is that the first stumbling block?

Unfortunately the key will not push into the lock, there is a small amount of movement on the green handle as I can move about 1mm however the lock seems to be rusted solid - its going to be a lock off job, but wondered what the technique is that the scumbags use to steal them as this will be the quickest way to get it off I guess.
The car is not mobile as the "crankshaft fairy" has been to visit
Please can someone drop me a PM as i want to list the car on Ebay and would like to hang onto the towbar if i can Must stop buying shiny toys....

The site policy is NOT to PM details, I know that might seem unhelpful but I'm sure you appreciate the intention: http://www.disco3.co.uk/wiki/Replacing_the_Tow_Bar_Lock 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

if your going to keep the bar just spend 18 quid and get a new lock...detailed instructions and the special tool needed will come with the new lock.

See above, site policy is not to PM details . Have you the key and does it turn in the lock, if so it should release. If it is seized get a new lock, only a few £s it will be clear how to remove. Remember you have to pull out the knob and turn at the same time and the Key must be in the lock to release.

Mine was seized in when I bought it,
Speaking to parts guy at Land Rover he told me there's a recall on them,
I got new crossmember fitted and a new tow bar FOC from dealer,
Worth a check
