Battery failing

Hi all a little help needed please this is one might be for one of our resident expert auto electricians ,had a new battery fitted 18 months ago but it was never brilliant and has been marginal at best ,had the alternator replaced as it was not pumping out enough current ,but even after a good spell on a Ctek it losses its charge over a couple weeks .I took my car to my brother garage for an MOT and it disgraced its self leaving him with a flat battery ,I asked him to drop test it he said that fecked and that new one needed Big Cry ,he told me that all that happens when it is charge it is only charging a small part of the battery and the remainder of it will no longer accept a charge ,well that's what I think he said have I got it right ? Thumbs Up

On the Disco, just put another battery on car I will wait to see if that will hold a charge .The drop test indicates that the battery on the car will not take or hold much of a charge Thumbs Up

But...

just what make & type of battery did you fit ?
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

What came first - battery replaced then alternator ?. Reason for asking is that faulty alternator would either take down the battery either completely or partially as happened with myself . Thought I had got away with it as could charge the battery off vehicle and it would hold charge no problem however once in vehicle it would die after a few days which wrongly had me believe it was a parasitic drain . Finally discovered that the battery was down on capacity by 50% and also cranking capability was only 40% - battery changed and it's not skipped a beat since .

Hope that helps Thumbs Up

Sorry for not getting back sooner BL I fitted a Lion battery, a standard run of the mill job pretty crap TBH Thumbs Up
Hi Simoniz bingo that is it exactly with what has happened to mine , put new battery on but never really packed punch always on the slow side fitted new alternator as old one was putting out a low charge still had issues with flat battery .I have now put the old one back on and it seems to have kept a charge and ever time since that when I started the disco has spun the starter over with ease ,so crossed fingers got it sorted this time .I guess that the battery and got into some type of charge cycle and as you say has only 40-50% of its original performance Thumbs Up

I had a Lion battery, utter rubbish. Kept draining with just opening doors etc. Almost left me stranded once and ended up keeping a jump-pack with me and jump leads at all times.

It was new when I bought the D3 but after continued problems I bought the one always recommended on here and have had no problems with it at all.

Noticed that the capacity and cranking amps were a fair bit higher on the new one, despite the Lion one being recommended for the D3.
